From electricians to plumbers – Know all self-employed services allowed during lockdown 2.0
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) came out with fresh guidelines as India entered lockdown 2.0, which will last till May 3.
Unlike the initial 21-days, the government has issued detailed guidelines to avoid confusion on what services citizens can avail and what they cannot.
In its fresh list of guidelines, the government has allowed self-employed persons like electricians, plumbers, mechanics, carpenters and IT repair agents to work from April 20. This means citizens can avail these in addition to other public utility services that were already available.
Other than that, the government has also relaxed rules to mitigate the economic difficulties faced by people working across several sectors.
Manufacturing, construction and agricultural & allied activities can resume in places which have not been identified as containment zones.
The fresh guidelines will provide much-needed relief in India’s rural regions, where agriculture is a major source of income. In urban areas, the beginning of constructions activities will help migrant labourers who have left without any income since the lockdown was first announced.
While the fresh set of guidelines provided conditional relief to restart the economy, industry bodies are hoping that the government would now follow up with some financial aid to MSMEs, who have been severely hit by the lockdown.
