Five India Players Highly Unlikely To Get A Chance Under New Selection Panel

This month India’s national cricket team has got new selectors. With the end of the tenure of MSK Parsad and Gagan Khoda, Sunil Joshi gained the position of chief selector while Harvinder Singh replaced Khoda.

Earlier, the Cricket Advisory Committee(CAC) comprising of Madan Lal, RP Singh and Sulakshana Naik took the interview of five shortlisted candidates. At last, Joshi and Harvinder were the most favourites among the candidates.

Recently, the new selection committee selected India’s squad for the ongoing ODI series against South Africa.

Hardik Pandya, Shikhar Dhawan, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar made comeback in the series.

With the entry of new members in the selection panel, the fans will be hoping for some fruitful changes in the team.

Also, some new players will get the chance in the team while some will have to wait for long to get the place back.

On that note, we take a look at five players who might not get a chance under the new selection committee

Khaleel Ahmed:

Being a lefty, the fast bowler had got the edge over his competitor but soon he turned out to be an expensive bowler. With the likes of Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, and Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed had lost his place in the team. He couldn’t quite extend that wicket-taking capability and was dropped from the team.

He had an impressive performance in the recently-concluded series between India A and New Zealand XI. He had easily picked the wickets of opposition. But the tough competition in the team might now make tough for him to find a spot.

The left-arm pacer Khaleel, who made the debut in the team in 2018, last featured in the team in 2019 against Bangladesh where he was badly beaten.

The 22-year-old has played 11 ODIs and 14 T20Is where he picked 15 and 13 wickets respectively.

Kedar Jadhav:

Indian captain Virat Kohli didn’t use Kedar Jadhav as the all-round option. In the recent past, he has only performed through the bat, not with the ball. Though he could not score runs.

Since the World Cup 2019, the 34-year-old has played only eight ODIs, making a high score of 40.

In the ODI series against Australia at home, he was unable to lead the team to the finishing point, which he is famous for.

Thus, the veteran might lose his place to the youngsters like Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Manish Pandey.

Besides, he has been already snubbed from the ongoing ODI series against South Africa.

Dinesh Karthik:

As said ‘opportunity knocks at your door, but once’, Karthik every time failed to capitalise on his chances.

Therefore, the wicketkeeper-batsman international career never took off. Also, with the rise of MS Dhoni, his career soon faded away.

As Dhoni emerged as the priority in wicketkeeping, he entered the team as the pure batsman.

Since then, he had a roller-coaster ride with a lot of ups and downs.

With all those incredible skills, he could have attained the status of a legend but he could not utilise the opportunities well. And, now with the emergence of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, the veteran could be left out.

Shahbaz Nadeem:

Shahbaz Nadeem was a surprising entry in the Test series against South Africa in the last Test match in 2019 when Kuldeep Yadav sustained a shoulder injury. He had impressed with his bowling in his debut match, picking four wickets in the Test match.

However, after that, he hasn’t been called in the team.

Shahbaz is not the first choice spinner for the team. Also, the team will be looking forward to going with the combination of experienced i.e, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin.

MS Dhoni:

The former Indian captain has taken a break from the game after ICC World Cup 2019 . He has been out of action since the last eight months. Importantly, he has also been excluded from the BCCI’s central contract list.

So, there is an indirect hint that Dhoni is now no more in the plans of the Indian team.

However, from time to time, selectors and the head coach has said that wicketkeeper batsman’s performance in IPL will decide his future in the national team.

Besides, his break has given chance to Pant to don the gloves but the youngster has failed to get to the mark like Dhoni.

Interestingly, KL Rahul has come out to fill the gap of the veteran. He has been scoring runs from every position and has also shown class behind the stumps.

Thus, the Indian team has signalled that they have moved on from Dhoni.
