The fishermen are innocents. They inadvertently cross the water territory and enter other country’s waters. Now non-existent India-Pakistan Joint Judicial Committee has in all their report had recommended that both the countries should release and repatriate arrested fishermen.
The same is with the women prisoners. Now, at the time of novel coronavirus, it is all the more necessary that India and Pakistan release fishermen, women prisoners, and other civilian prisoners who are not charged with serious crimes. The family members of the prisoners are most worried about their relatives languishing in each other country’s prisons.
“India and Pakistan exchange lists of prisoners of each other country on every 1st January and 1st July under the Agreement on Consular Access of 2008.
Pakistan must immediately nominate four members to the Judicial Committee on Prisoners and call a meeting of the committee as the last meeting was held in India in October 2013.” said Jatin Desai, Activist. Further, he added that “India has already nominated its four members in May 2018. It is also a high time that both countries send a team of doctors to each other’s country to medically check their country’s prisoners.”
In 2015, Pakistan released 57 Indian fishing boats and agreed to release 22 more boats. These boats were also identified. These 22 boats need to be released immediately. India and Pakistan must release all boats which are in good condition and can sail with some repair work demands Desai
