India, China disengage at several points in eastern Ladakh; troops move back by upto 2 kms
New Delhi: After Saturday’s afternoon meeting between Indian and Chinese generals in Moldo, troops on both sides, once virtually eyeball-to-eyeball in Galwan and the Finger area of eastern Ladakh, have moved back between one and two kilometres. But the Chinese military build-up in the rear areas, including about 100 tanks and artillery, remains.
In Galwan, the disengagement has been in the PP (patrolling point) 14, PP 15 and PP 17 areas. In the Finger area too, there has been disengagement.
Speaking about Galwan, top government sources said: “The Chinese moved back 20 lorries of troops from Galwan.

In the Finger area, the pullback has begun. Boat loads of PLA troops and vehicles carrying additional troops have gone back.
Now, both sides will begin talks this week at various points of difficulty. This could be depending on the circumstances – at Brigadier and Major General level, even at Colonel level if necessary.
What could be worrying is the position in the rear areas. From DBO in the north to Chushul in the South, the Chinese have deployed a division strength of over 10,000 troops and tanks and artillery. There are two regiments of tanks and an equal number of artillery. About 100 tanks are being looked at.
Along with that, the Chinese have deployed fighters, air defence systems and radars. And also, AWACS or airborne warning and control systems.
But the deployment has been done in “broad daylight” and is being seen as muscle flexing and not pure aggression.
Top government sources said the Chinese have come upto Finger 4 – India believes the LAC is further back at Finger 8. The Chinese are still behind what is the Indian perception of the LAC in Galwan.
There are about a thousand Chinese soldiers in Galwan and an equal number in Finger area.
There is a confirmation of construction of bunkers by the PLA in the Finger area but they are stones heaped on each other or Sangers, as they are called.
