
COVID in India – Record single-day spike of 9,987 cases
The coronavirus cases continue to surge in the country. According to the latest Union Health Ministry data, a record 9,987 positive cases were detected in India in the last 24 hours. With this, the toll of COVID-19 cases rose to 2, 66,598.
So far, the only sigh of relief for India has been a higher recovery rate and lower death rate. However, the death rate is increasing with every passing day. As per the latest data, until Tuesday 8 am, 7,466 were killed by the deadly virus.
More importantly, 266 fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours itself.
After the United States, Brazil, Russia, Spain and the United Kingdom, India is the sixth worst-hit nation by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Notably, the number of active novel coronavirus cases stands at 1, 29,917, while 1,29,214 people have recovered and one patient has migrated.
Of the 266 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, 109 were reported in Maharashtra itself.
“Thus, 48.47 per cent patients have recovered so far,” the ministry said.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra continues to be worst COVID hit state in the country followed by Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Gujarat.
