Major states likely to begin home delivery of liquor soon; check the list of states here
New Delhi: After Chhattisgarh, Punjab and West Bengal, several major states have decided to follow suit and put plans in motion to implement home delivery of liquor within the next two weeks. The state governments are planning this move in order to maintain social distancing and avoid ruckus outside liquor shops.
Amrit Kiran, chairman of International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI), told media, “For a country like India, which has the world’s second-largest population but also the lowest number of outlets, home delivery is the need of the hour to ensure social distancing.

It should be noted that ISWAI represents a string of liquor companies that sell about 80 per cent of all spirits and wine in India.
As per reports, the states planning on starting home delivery service include Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Maharashtra government has been facing backlash from locals for allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages in red zones. While Delhi government’s decision to impose 70 per cent ‘corona cess’ in the wake of humongous demand has backfired badly.
Meanwhile, restaurants, bars and pubs as well as some online food aggregators have also urged the Central government to allow home delivery of liquor. They have said that it will not only ensure social distancing but also act as a lifesaver for various sectors hampered by coronavirus pandemic.
Last week, liquor shops across the country were reopened after a hiatus of over 40 days but it soon backfired has hundreds of tipplers thronged at the shops and formed serpentine queues. There were reports of ruckus outside liquor shops all over the country.
