‘Amma has come to take me!’ – Irrfan Khan’s last words; actor laid to rest at Mumbai’s Versova burial ground
Mumbai: Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, whose sudden demise has left everyone shocked, was on Wednesday laid to rest at Versova burial ground in Mumbai at 3 pm. Only immediate family members were permitted to attend the funeral rites due to the ongoing lockdown to stem the spread of coronavirus.
“Irrfan was buried at the Versova kabrastan in Mumbai at 3 pm this afternoon soon after the news of his passing away was announced. In presence were his family, close relatives and friends. Everyone paid their final respects and mourned the loss of his passing away. We pray for his peace and we hope he’s in a better place today.
He was strong in his fight, and we all have to be strong too in this loss,” said an official statement from his spokesperson.
As per Bombay Times, the acclaimed actor’s last words were – “Amma has come to take me”. This is to be noted that the National Award-winning actor’s mother, Sayeeda Begum, had breathed her last in Rajasthan’s Jaipur just four days ago. Irrfan Khan was not able to travel to Jaipur to attend the last rites of his mother due to ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.
He was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Mumbai earlier this week with a colon infection.
The father-of-two won many accolades during his career.
Meanwhile, Khan’s last message to his fans has also surfaced. He had recorded the message as he could not participate in the promotions of ‘Angrezi Medium’ because of his ill health.
“Hello brothers and sister. This is me Irrfan. Today I’m with you but also not with you,” said Irrfan.
Saying that Homi Adajania-directed movie ‘Angrezi Medium’ was a special film for him, Khan said he wanted to promote it “with as much as love as we have put in the making of it”.
“There is a saying – ‘When life gives you lemons, you make lemonades out of it. It sounds good. But when life actually puts lemon in your hands, it becomes really tough to make lemonade,” the actor had said.
“But what is the choice apart from being positive in tough situations. We have made this film with the same positivity. And I hope this film will teach you, make you laugh, make you cry and then make you laugh again. Enjoy the trailer and be kind to each other. And yes wait for me,” he had said.
In 2018, the actor was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour. Leaving a vacuum that would never be filled, the Bollywood star passed away on Wednesday at the age of 54.
