Meghalaya reports 2 more Covid-19 positive cases; Northeast tally rises to 50

Meghalaya reported two more positive cases for Covid-19 on Thursday. With this, Meghalaya has a total of nine cases of the novel coronavirus including the Covid-19 positive patient who died on Wednesday.

Both the infected patients are the family members of the first Covid-19 positive patient of the state who died on Wednesday morning.

“Two more cases have tested positive. Both are family members of the first patient,” Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said in a tweet.

A 69-year-old senior doctor of a Shillong-based hospital, the first patient of the state, was tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday and died on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, five family members and a helper of the first patient were also tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, CM Conrad Sangma said the state government has collected 552 samples so far and out of which 308 results have been declared.

“We have 9 positive cases (including the deceased individual) and 299 have been tested negative. We currently await 244 test results,” Conrad Sangma said.

A total of 50 positive cases for Covid-19 have been reported in the Northeastern region including 34 from Assam, 9 from Meghalaya, two each from Manipur and Tripura and one each from Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland.

Two Covid-19 positive patients — one each from Assam and Meghalaya — died and six patients were discharged from the hospitals following their recovery.
