
Doha: The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs in Qatar has announced certain concessions to immigrants who are unable to return to the country due to the restrictions placed in the wake of coronavirus outbreak. The ministry has said that persons whose Qatar ID expires and whose six-month validity of Qatar Residence Permit expire during the period of restrictions can return to Qatar once the restrictions are lifted.
The decision was taken after the ministry authorities conducted discussions with leaders of the immigrant communities.
According to Qatar rules, a person holding Qatar Residence Permit can’t live outside Qatar for more than six months.
Once the permit or ID expires, expats can’t enter the country.
Concessions have been announced for the immigrants in these rules.
Qatar’s health ministry has temporarily banned the entry of travellers from 14 countries – India, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria and Thailand.
Qatar Airways, the country’s national carrier, had already suspended flights to and from Italy, one of the hardest-hit countries. The country has 262 positive coronavirus cases as of now.
