New Delhi: The United States released USD 50 billion in federal funds for the battle against the coronavirus pandemic as President Donald Trump announced a national state of emergency. ‘We’ll remove or eliminate every obstacle necessary to deliver our people the care that they need and that they’re entitled to,’ the President said in his message.
The emergency order will allow the health department to waive applicable rules and regulations to give doctors, hospitals and healthcare providers maximum flexibility to respond to the virus and care for patients.
After Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro was tested positive, pressures have been mounting on Trump to test as he came into contact with the Bolsonaro’s aide who was tested positive.
‘I don’t have any of the symptoms and we don’t want people without symptoms to go and do the test,’ he said. ‘I didn’t say I wasn’t going to be tested…most likely…fairly soon. Not for that reason but because I think I will do it anyway,’ Trump said.
The United States has recorded 40 deaths so far. Making a point for his strong border policy, he tweeted, ‘To this point, and because we have had a very strong border policy, we have had 40 deaths related to CoronaVirus. If we had weak or open borders, that number would be many times higher!’
‘Americans are the strongest and most resilient people on earth…We will remove or eliminate every obstacle necessary to deliver our people the care that they need, and that they are entitled to. No resource will be spared,’ he said in his press conference.
