Gymnastics may look like a fun sport from far but it can potentially involve serious injuries and long term side effects. The sport requires immense discipline, practice, and self-control in order to execute the moves without mistakes.
But despite rigorous training and unwavering determination, gymnasts take nasty falls from time to time. Needless to say, it is a sport that cannot be perfected by anyone. Falls during events and training sessions can lead to serious injuries and even end careers of individuals.
But thankfully, there are some good coaches who always keep a constant eye on their students and also step in when something goes wrong.
One such dedicated coach averted a serious injury when a young gymnast made a landing error during an event in Nashville, US.
A footage of the incident has now gone viral and the coach has earned praise for his quick action.
Watch it here:
The viral footage shows the gymnast running towards a springboard and jumping into a handspring before successfully flipping through the air. However, her leg slides off the mat during landing. But just as she is about to take a nasty fall sideways, her coach came running towards her and caught her mid-air. The audience and other gymnasts inside the gym were seen applauding the coach after he caught the girl.
The video, shot by the young gymnast’s mother, has now received thousands of views on social media.
“When you compete for vault, you have two tries at it – the judges take the best one and that will be your score. This was my daughter’s first run on vault and when jumping back on her back handspring she went sideways and could’ve badly hurt herself. But her coach saw that she wasn’t aligned and ran in to catch her before she hit the ground,” the mother of the girl captioned the video.
