Rohingya Muslims beats Christians in Bangladesh refugee camp, vandalized church and school

Dhaka: Many Christians have been beaten into their homes in refugee camps in Bangladesh. Dozens of attackers have also looted and vandalized homes. International human rights organization Human Rights Watch has given information in this regard in a report. The incident is of a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, where most Rohingya Muslims live. A priest and his 14-year-old girl have also been kidnapped by the attackers.

The report quoted police as saying that on the night of 26 January 2020, 22 Rohingya Christian families were attacked in a camp in Cox’s Bazar.

On the morning of 27 January, Pastor Taher and his 14-year-old daughter were kidnapped. According to Human Rights Watch, at least 12 Rohingya Christians were injured and admitted to the hospital. The church and the school of Christians built in the camp itself have also been destroyed.

After the attack, the victims have been kept at the United Nations Transit Center. Police has registered a case against 59 attackers. According to reports by Bangladesh’s Benar News Agency and Radio Free Asia, the attackers are believed to be associated with the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). However, a representative of ARSA has denied these allegations.
