Coimbatore: A large number of conversions are coming to light in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. More than 400 Dalits who have converted have alleged that they have been facing caste-based partiality and injustice for years. People belonging to the Arundathiyar community claim that they are facing caste-based discrimination every day and are not even being given space to bury their dead.

It is noteworthy that on 17 December 17 Dalits were killed after a wall collapsed in Mettupalayam. The wall had broken down on these people, which is later called the ‘untouchable wall’.

Locals claim that it was a caste wall set up to keep the Dalits away from the area around the colony. Dalit supporter Tamil Puligal general secretary Nilaveenil has said that according to Ambedkar’s words, he decided to convert his associates and loved ones to Islam, to free him from the clutches of casteism. Nilawenil claims that around 3000 people are ready to accept Islam and 430 people have accepted so far.

Many people who have accepted Islam claim that they are sided with everywhere and are not even allowed to enter temples. These people say that we can go to any mosque, whereas it does not happen among Hindus. Incidents of this type have also come to the fore in Coimbatore.
