The Election Commission has announced the election dates for the much-anticipated Delhi assembly elections. Elections in Delhi will be held on February 8 in a single phase and the results will be announced on February 11.

Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora addressed the media on Monday in New Delhi to announce the dates of Delhi assembly elections. Elections on all 70 seats in Delhi will be held on February 8.

Model Code of Conduct comes into effect in Delhi with immediate force, announced Sunil Arora. CEO Delhi will be implementing the Model Code of Conduct.

The term of the 70-member Delhi Assembly is ending on February 22 and a new House has to be constituted before that. The last assembly elections in Delhi were held in 2015, which saw Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief sweeping the elections and winning 67 of the 70 seats.

HERE ARE THE LATEST UPDATES ON DELHI ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 2020:

4.10 pm: Imposing the model code of conduct, CEC Sunil Arora also said that the upcoming Union budget cannot include state-specific schemes or references to Delhi.

4.05 pm: Concerning the law and order situation in Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said, “We have interacted with the Delhi Police. We have their written commitment. We have had a talk with the chief secretary as well. I won’t say we are sanguine but we are hopeful that they will be able to control the situation. “

4.00 pm: Reacting to the announcement of poll dates in Delhi, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said, “In Delhi, every worker and voter of AAP is ready. Arvind Kejriwal has worked a lot in the past five years and we have to make a hardworking CM win.”

EC PREPARES FOR DELHI POLLS

Announcing the Delhi assembly election dates, Sunil Arora said, “Four commissioners conducted comprehensive reviews on November 4 and December 6 of the poll preparedness. On December 26 the full commission held a daylong meeting with all officials, DEOs, DCPS, Joint CP, chairman NDMC, and Delhi cantonment.”

The CEC also said that 90,000 election officials will be required to conduct the election process in the national capital.

In the 2020 Delhi assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal will seek re-election as the chief minister of Delhi for a second term with BJP led by Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tewari propped up as the chief contender.

BJP had won only 3 seats in the 2015 Delhi assembly elections under the leadership of BJP leader Kiran Bedi. Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP swept almost all seats in Delhi just months after Narendra Modi won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections with a massive mandate.

A total of 1.46 crore voters can exercise their franchise in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, according to the final electoral list for Delhi published on Monday.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Delhi Ranbir Singh said the final publication of voters list shows there are total 1,46,92,136 voters in Delhi including 80.55 lakh males and 66.35 lakh females.
