Vocational training centers, not internment camps in Xinjiang: China

China on Sunday said that reports of action against Muslims in Xinjiang province on the basis of religion are completely baseless. There is no internment camp here, but vocational training centers have been set up to combat terrorism, fundamentalism and extremism. China’s statement comes after several countries in the world expressed concern over the atrocities on Uygar Muslims in Xinjiang. Chinese Ambassador Sun Waidong said that Xinjiang has been a victim of terrorism and religious fundamentalism since 1990. Anti-terrorism measures, including the establishment of training centers, have led to a significant decline in terrorist activities in the last three years.

There have been reports that China has imprisoned millions of Uygar Muslims in high-security detention camps in Xinjiang province without trial.

Hearing on these reports, he claimed that there was no internment camp in the province. Vocational educational and training centers have been set up here under the provisions of the law, which aim to root out terrorism and religious fundamentalism. These measures have significantly reduced violent terrorist incidents in the province. Not a single violent terrorist incident occurred in the last three years.
