Nath said the Congress has never supported divisive laws.
Speaking on the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress stalwart Kamal Nath on Friday, 13 December, said the grand old party has never supported laws that are divisive in nature.
Addressing a gathering at the Indian Women’s Press Corps in New Delhi Nath said “The Congress has never supported laws that seek to divide the people and whatever the party decides will be followed by the government in Madhya Pradesh.”
For those questioning as to how the Act affects the masses, Nath said “do you want to preside over the sowing of divisive seeds , which is the antithesis of the this country?
that is the question.”
Nath further added that the Act is against the spirit of federalism as it was was purportedly implemented without consulting chief ministers. “Is this federalism? did you have a CMs’ meeting before this? just because you have a majority in Parliament?” he asked.
